NINE-HUNDRED DOLLARYDOOS! TOBIAS!

Hmmmm, precious cartoon nostalgia.

We all know that The Simpsons is an historic television show and a big part of pop culture for an entire generation (or two). It might be even more global that we thought.

A recent petition on Change.org is asking Australia’s government to rename their currency in an effort to boost their economy. Currently, the Australian dollar is called, well, the dollar. But a potential change to “dollarydoos” could pay big dividends, according to petition starter Thomas Probst.

Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling. That’s why we need something to stimulate the Australian economy and that something is changing the name of the Australian currency to ‘Dollarydoos’. This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency. If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible. So please sign this petition to get our nations leaders to finally act on this important issue.

The petition already has 53,000 signatures, but needs to reach 75,000 to become official. While it probably won’t matter anyway, since the government is unlikely to bother with anything that is this much fun, we went ahead and signed it and will definitely book a flight to Australia as soon as we can get our hands on some of those dollarydoos.
