Now that you can write tens numbers, let's go a step further. Let's write numbers in the hundreds. To write hundreds numbers, we add two zeros. So 1 hundred equals 100, with 1 in the hundreds place, and a 0 in both the tens place, and the ones place (These are sometimes called the hundreds column, the tens column, and the ones column.)

Our first value is 5 hundreds. We will write 5 in the hundreds place and place a 0 in the tens place and the ones place.

We read the value as five hundred.
Our next value is 49 hundreds. We can't write 49 in the hundreds place, so we write the ones digit of 49 in the hundreds place, which is 9. The tens digit will go in the thousands place (thousands column). Then we place a 0 in the tens place and the ones place.

We read the value as four thousand nine hundred or forty-nine hundred.
As our last example, let's use the value 93 hundreds. Remember that we can't write 93 in the hundreds place, so we write the ones digit in the hundreds place and the tens digit in the thousands place. Then we add a 0 in the tens and ones place.

We read this value as nine thousand three hundred or ninety-three hundred.
