Let's look at this multiplication problem:

What product, or answer, do we get? The product equals 12. Here's another problem:

What do you notice from our multiplication problem? This time, a two-digit number is multiplied by a single-digit number. So what do we do when we multiply a two-digit number by a single-digit number? When we multiply a tens number by a single-digit number, the answer equals a tens number. Let's look at our problem again. Our problem says 6 tens times 2. So the answer is how many tens? It's 6 tens times 2 equals 12 tens. Here's what our problem will look like:

Here's a new problem:

The answer we get from 2 times 5 equals 10. What if our problem becomes this?

Again, if we read our problem, it is 2 tens times 5. How many tens do we have? We have 10 tens. Therefore, our answer to 2 tens times 5 equals 100.
How about this problem? What does it say?

The problem says 8 tens times 4. So what's our answer? We have 32 tens, or 320.
Remember, when you multiply a tens number, the product is a tens number.
