In order to complete this activity, all you will need is a pencil and some paper. Use one sheet of the paper to cut four strips. Write multiplication signs (both x and o) and parentheses on the strips. Make sure that the open parenthesis and close parenthesis are on separate strips. After you have made your strips, write the following expressions on another sheet of paper:

You may add any other equations you want, but these will get you started. First, evaluate each expression. You can write your answer as a fraction, or write it as a whole number if you are able. After you have evaluated each expression, it is time to use the strips you made earlier. Go through each expression and cover up the existing multiplication signs with another method of showing multiplication. See how many different ways you can change the expressions with your strips without making them incorrect.
Once you are finished, write the following expression on your paper:
=
Place one of your strips between the 7 and the
, and then evaluate the expression.
