When you're looking for the least common denominator, you're going to be doing a lot of counting. Whether you're creating a number line or just counting in your head, you need to know how to count by numbers greater (larger) than one.
In this activity, you'll practice counting by greater numbers. This will help build your math skills and prepare you to find common numbers. You will need a sheet of paper, two dice, and a pen or pencil.
First, take the dice and roll a number. Start counting by that number. Say you rolled a 3. Start counting by threes. Do this out loud for about 20 seconds. You might find it helpful to use a pencil and paper if you have trouble counting out loud.
Keep rolling the dice to practice counting. Every time you roll the dice, write down the number on your sheet of paper. Once you feel good about counting, pick two numbers from your list. Use what you have learned to find the least common denominator. You may choose to create number lines or count in your head, but make sure to write down your answer. Have a parent or teacher check your answer.
