Here is a fun game to help you practice solving division problems using coins. You will need 20 dimes, two pieces of paper, and a pen for this activity.
On one piece of paper, draw a medium-sized circle. Count out 20 dimes and put them in your left hand. Without looking at the paper, pour the dimes out of your hand. See where the dimes landed. For example, 10 dimes landed in the circle, while the other 10 are outside the circle.
Solve a multiplication problem by finding out how many cents landed in the circle. Don't forget to draw a coin number family. Because 10 times 10 equals 100 (10 × 10 = 100), the answer equals 100 cents. One hundred cents landed in the circle.

For the dimes that land outside the circle, solve a division problem. Find out how many quarters or nickels are equal to the dimes outside the circle. Here, we have 10 dimes. You know from solving earlier problems that 10 dimes is equal to 100 cents. You also know that each quarter is worth 25 cents. When you divide 100 by 25, you get 4 (100 ÷ 25 = 4). You now know that your 10 dimes are also equal to 4 quarters.
Keep pouring the dimes onto your paper for more practice. You pour a different number of dimes each time, so you will have many different problems. Continue to play until you get the hang of multiplying and dividing using coins.
