Today, six of us Planet Green writers had a meeting...over the phone. We even had a PowerPoint presentation that we all followed along over the internet. While we didn't have the advantage of making eye contact with each other, we did have the advantage of not having to spend hundreds of dollars and countless hours of traveling just to be in the same room with each other for an hour. Our meeting today did not require an unfathomable amount of carbon credits to offset either.

While I don't know the comfort level of my associates, I was sitting in my lounger chair, drinking organic coffee inside my unfinished home in this desert mountain valley, staring outside of a window well into the crisp blue sky. While bright cartoon looking clouds were getting ready to expand into afternoon thunderstorms, the conflicting weather systems were sending a rush of fresh air through my workspace. I've never been to a meeting like this.

While it seems absurd to travel across country for a conference or meeting, it is still the norm for many companies. For the price of getting everyone there, those companies could give their employees a small bonus instead. They could also leave less of a burden for others to offset.

Sure it would be nice to meet my associates in person, and maybe that will happen one day. But in the meantime, I am content with idea of choosing my own work environment.
